Easter Traditions
Easter is such an amazing time of year. So many times we have many Christmas traditions—but what about Easter traditions? One of my favorite traditions in our Weekday Ministries program is our Flowering of the Cross Chapel. We have an old wooden cross that stands before us; and our infants, toddlers and preschoolers add flowers to the cross. The cross seems to come alive… and it is absolutely beautiful. Isn’t that what we want—for our children to see Easter as absolutely beautiful??
I hope that you will find Easter traditions to use in your home—there are so many on the Internet. Before beginning a new tradition in your family, think about what aspect of the holiday you want your children to remember. Do you want them to focus on the Christian aspect and remember that as the focus? If so, then make sure your traditions focus on that aspect. In my family we always use the resurrection eggs to tell the story to each other. You can buy a set or you can make your own. Depending on the age of your child you can decide what “eggs” to have in your set. As your child grows older and he understands more of the details of Easter, you can add to the set.
Another great tradition we have is to make Resurrection Rolls:
- Use refrigerated crescent dinner rolls and place a large marshmallow in the center of each triangle.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on them.
- Cover the marshmallow with the crescent roll, pour melted butter on top and bake.
My own children still enjoy seeing that the marshmallow is no longer there after they are baked…and we enjoy a great discussion on the tomb being empty.
