My Upgraded Life

Passage: Ecclesiastes 6

Speaker: Dr. Garet Robinson

Series: Overcoming Suburban Addictions

Category: Sunday Sermons

Everywhere we look, it seems, we are encouraged to upgrade “this” or make sure we have the newest “that.” Our lives are measured by the external perceptions of others where we live, work, and play. Living beyond our means but making it look entirely under control is a mark of immortality. Hyper-competition among parents over their children bleeds into this addiction. We are constantly seeking after that next experience, accomplishment, or purchase to complete our personal identity. Even at the end of his life, Solomon reminds us that this tension is real, and that too often our pursuit of the appearance of success is, ultimately, an empty vanity. When our quest for immortality is tied to pursuing the approval of others, we never leave a lasting legacy. Moving from prideful contention to Godly contentment allows us to create space for the Kingdom of God in our lives.
