A Community [Un]Settled

A Community [Un]Settled

Passage: Judges 9:7-15

Speaker: Dr. Garet Robinson

Series: Faces of Community

Category: Sunday Sermons

Keywords: judges, redemption, repentance, unsettled

While the book of Joshua settles Israel in the Promised Land, in Judges we see how they become unsettled. It wasn’t because Israel lacks political or military ability, rather they fall into a cycle of sin, judgment, and repentance that defines their existence in the era of judges. Israel may have been settled in the land, but they are unsettled because of their sin. Using Jotham’s parable, we can learn from Israel about cycles in our own lives. Just like Israel, our cycles of sin lead us away from God; through repentance we rediscover the blessing of redemption. (Judges 9:7-15; 1 John 1:8-2:2)
