This summer was our second year to offer Kamp Kaboom, a camp that uses science to draw kids attention to Christ. This year’s camp was under the leadership of Robin Mayeau, who was assisted by Nicole Bartel, Becky Eanes, Shelly Jordan and Ann Anguiano. Kamp Kaboom maxed out this year with 106 kids and over fifty student staffers.

Our theme for this year’s camp was Trust. Each morning began with worship and a skit, then it was off to projects and devotional experiments. Kids experimented with oil and water, and learned that their sin separates them from God. They also did an experiment with stacking nails with the main spiritual point that while sometimes God’s plan may seem confusing, it is perfect. Jesus dying on the cross was God’s perfect plan. Each day also included projects such as tye-dyed bandanna and magnetic super slim.

Each afternoon, we all loaded up and went on exciting science-themed field trips to places like the Museum of Natural Science, Moody Gardens and also Johnson Space Center. Later in the week, kids had an extended day of science experiments along with a movie and popcorn.

My favorite moment of the week was when this precious little girl was walking out the door crying. I stopped her and her mom and asked why she was crying. Her response was, “I don’t want this week to end!” Priceless!
